ext-c2pa
========

[](#ext-c2pa)

PHP 8.3+ native C2PA Content Credentials: read/validate manifests and sign Media Library images (incl. derivatives). PHP namespace `Automattic\VIP\C2PA`.

The extension half of the **wp-c2pa** VIP product: the WordPress plugin in [github.com/ericmann/wp-c2pa](https://github.com/ericmann/wp-c2pa) consumes this extension (its `DESIGN.md`, `PLAN.md`, and `CLAUDE.md` cover the product-level picture), and its `demo/` harness proves both on a local vip-go site against a sibling checkout of this repo.

Documentation: [c2pa.eamann.com](https://c2pa.eamann.com). Scaffolded from [ext-template](https://github.com/DisplaceTech/ext-template); the files listed in its `template/managed/` tree are kept in sync with `bin/sync` — edit those upstream, not here. Everything else is this extension's own and has been VIP-ified (namespace, license, copyright). [ext-infer](https://github.com/DisplaceTech/ext-infer) is the worked reference for house conventions (quality bar, layout, stubs).

License
-------

[](#license)

GPL-2.0-or-later © Automattic, Inc. — consistent with WordPress core. The "or later" clause is load-bearing: it lets us link the Apache-2.0/MIT dependencies (`c2pa`, `ext-php-rs`) by exercising the GPLv3 option. If release binaries statically link third-party code, add `THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md`; the release workflow attaches a transitive `cargo about` manifest.

Releases
--------

[](#releases)

Pushing a `v*` tag builds release-mode binaries for the full platform × PHP-minor matrix and attaches PIE-convention tarballs to the GitHub Release (see `RELEASE.md` for the full procedure). Listing the package on Packagist/PIE is still deferred.

Top contributor holds 100% of commits — single point of failure

How is this calculated?**Maintenance (25%)** — Last commit recency, latest release date, and issue-to-star ratio. Uses a 2-year decay window.

**Popularity (30%)** — Total and monthly downloads, GitHub stars, and forks. Logarithmic scaling prevents top-heavy scores.

**Community (15%)** — Contributors, dependents, forks, watchers, and maintainers. Measures real ecosystem engagement.

**Maturity (30%)** — Project age, version count, PHP version support, and release stability.
